How have you benefited from your service in the Navy Reserve?

The Navy Reserve has allowed me to utilize my military experience and training in an effective matter within the civilian sector. The responsibilities that I found myself in at such a young age molded me into a more assertive and dedicated asset to any employer. I found that I am able to handle conflict in many situations due to the adverse environments the military has provided me. I have also been able to develop friendships with a multitude of people and grown as a person with diverse respect for fellow comrades.

Why did you choose to join the Navy Reserve?

After I completed my first commitment, I was told by my supervisors that if I really wanted to get out, then to “always keep my foot in the door just in case I wanted to transition back in.” I considered all my options and knew that the military could always offer me great health care coverage, family support services, and the opportunity to volunteer my services for our nation’s commitments. At the time, I knew that I needed to give my young daughter more of a constant presence from her family. So I made the best decision to transition into the Reserve, which provided me with the stability to raise my daughter while continuing to serve in some way.

In my Navy…

the ones who you learned to respect the most are the ones who you had to prove the most to.
