Spotlight Highlight

Petty Officer Cheever graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.  He spends his free time sharing his passion for science by mentoring aspiring science professionals.  He also earned the honor of Sailor of the Year at NOSC Moreno Valley last year.

How have you benefited from your service in the Navy Reserve?

The Navy Reserve has sharpened me as a leader and has allowed me to be a mentor to my junior sailors.  Being in the reserves has given me the opportunity to continue to serve while pursuing my second passion in life, physical science.

Why did you choose to join the Navy Reserve?

When I was nearing the end of my active duty commitment, I had plans to attend school to obtain a B.S. in Biochemistry, but I still wanted to be a part of the Navy because of how the Navy had shaped my life.  The Navy has helped me grow from a young teenager to a well-disciplined adult and that is something I hope to continue for our junior sailors.

In my Navy…

anything is possible as long as you have to will to see it through.
