Spotlight Highlight

LS1 Henry is an active volunteer in her community.  As a Professional photographer, she donates numerous hours to local charities and events; her family serves meals at a local homeless shelter; and she performs multiple military funeral honors each month.

How have you benefited from your service in the Navy Reserve?

The Navy Reserve has allowed me to proudly continue serving in the military while being home more to enjoy my family and be involved in the community. I continue to utilize my Navy experience to help mentor junior Sailors and youth/college students to build positive futures, while planting seeds of interest about the Navy in each of them. The Reserve allows me to continue to reach my Navy career goals (set while serving on active duty) of becoming a Chief Petty Officer and setting the example of Honor, Courage and Commitment as a leader for my junior peers to follow.

Why did you choose to join the Navy Reserve?

When I completed my active duty commitment, I just wanted to be a mom after giving birth to my first child while stationed in Bahrain. But not even 6 months later I missed the action, the camaraderie, and the feeling of belonging to something greater – so I came running back! The Reserve truly is the best of both worlds.

In my Navy…

regardless of race, gender or sexual preference; everyone is equal, without discrimination. We are to be as one team, one fight, and one family. We should be living out the Navy’s core values to stand in Honor of serving our great country; Courage to do what’s right, even when it may not always be popular; and Committed to excellence and the fair treatment of all.
