Spotlight Highlight

Petty Officer Reis joined the Army after graduating from High School in 1984.  After 7 years of service she decided to leave the Army to spend more time with her family.  After more than 20 years away from the military, she felt called back to service when her daughter enlisted in the Navy and joined the Navy Reserve in 2005 as a Master-at-Arms.  During her years of service, she has deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Desert Storm in 1990 and to Kuwait in 2006.

How have you benefited from your service in the Navy Reserve?

I have benefited in many ways. First and foremost, I enjoy the camaraderie, closeness and team work. I am also privileged to have been able to travel all over, especially to places that I would not have had the opportunity to go otherwise, such as Korea, Guam, Japan and Kuwait.  I also have benefited from the opportunity to participate in incredible training as a Master-at-Arms.

Why did you choose to join the Navy Reserve?

Ever since I separated from the Army, I always had the desire to finish what I started, but the timing was never right. So when my oldest daughter informed me that she wanted to join the military after high school, I couldn’t begin to express to you how proud I felt.  After helping her to research career opportunities among the different military branches, we both felt that the Navy had the most to offer her.  After she was sworn in, I knew the timing was also right for me to go back into the military so I rejoined as a Reserve Sailor.

In my Navy…

I am proud and honored to serve with the Sailors assigned to my Navy Operational Support Center.
